Hailie's Story
Growing up, Hailie never experienced stability. She watched her mom fall into unsafe relationships and often had to look after herself. After turning 18, Hailie had to leave her home, and she was left with nowhere to go. She made her way to Lincoln to stay with some friends but struggled to find a more permanent and stable place to live.
Hailie got connected to a CEDARS staff member, and soon found a safe place to stay with us. During her stay, Hailie found comfort at CEDARS and became well-acquainted with staff and other kids. She joined them on regular outings, which she said made her feel like a normal kid.
“The kids and the staff that were with me during my time at CEDARS – I think of them as my family,” Hailie said. “CEDARS was the only place where I felt unconditional love and care, and it was one of the few places I felt safe. I wouldn’t still be here if it wasn’t for CEDARS.”
After two months, Hailie moved into transitional living and is now in her own apartment, where she will stay for some time before graduating from the program and becoming fully independent.
Hailie has since become a shift leader for a local business, and enjoys spending her free time baking, video gaming, reading, and listening to music. Being at CEDARS has helped her realize what she wants to do as she gets older, and she hopes to one day be able to help kids who are experiencing the same difficulties she overcame.
We are so proud of Hailie’s strength and resilience and are excited to see her continue to move forward. We are also thankful for our community and supporters who help us be here for kids like Hailie.
