Keeping Safety at the Center: CEDARS Commitment to Suicide Prevention
At CEDARS, keeping kids and families safe is at the heart of everything we do. Safety means more than physical well-being. It also means supporting mental health, recognizing when someone is struggling, and helping prevent harm. That's why suicide prevention is a critical part of our work.
In 2017, CEDARS introduced the Trauma Task Force to strengthen trauma-informed care across the organization. The group focuses on helping kids and families heal from difficult experiences while also supporting employee wellness.
As part of this ongoing commitment, the Trauma Task Force led the implementation of the Zero Suicide Framework, an evidence-based approach to suicide prevention that strengthens our ability to recognize and support individuals who may be struggling. It also reinforces CEDARS commitment to creating a safe, caring environment.
To support this work, all CEDARS employees complete suicide prevention training as part of their onboarding process. Team members who work directly with youth and families receive additional, specialized training to strengthen their ability to recognize risk factors, respond effectively, and connect individuals with appropriate resources.
CEDARS has also enhanced our approach to supporting kids and families by incorporating mental health screenings when they come into our care. When additional support may be needed, staff use proven tools to understand concerns and connect individuals with appropriate resources. Employees also have access to ongoing guidance and support to help them provide consistent, compassionate care.
Through these efforts, CEDARS is continuing to keep safety at the center of our work. Always.
