Nevaeh's Story

Meet Nevaeh!

Nevaeh grew up in a home that wasn’t safe for her and eventually had to leave. With nowhere stable to go and unable to afford an apartment, she spent time couch surfing, struggling with facing an uncertain future. Then, she learned about a program at CEDARS designed to help kids like her find a safe and stable place to live.

Once connected with CEDARS, Nevaeh found a safe place to live, as well as the support she needed to stay on track. She worked hard to keep her grades up, held two part-time jobs, and celebrated her high school graduation.

Not long after graduating, Nevaeh was in a serious car accident that required surgery and kept her out of work for many weeks. However, thanks to the financial literacy skills she learned from her CEDARS Family Partner, as well as her own discipline, Nevaeh had built up savings that helped her get through that challenging time. With guidance from her Family Partner, Nevaeh thoughtfully divided the funds she received from a settlement between savings accounts and certificates of deposit.

Since then, Nevaeh has successfully graduated from her program at CEDARS and continues to thrive! She has been promoted to a supervisor at her job, maintained excellent credit, and perhaps most exciting of all, she used her settlement to invest in a reliable vehicle and purchase her first home.

We are incredibly proud of Nevaeh for her strength, perseverance, and determination. We’re also deeply grateful for our staff whose guidance helps youth like Nevaeh build brighter, safer, and more secure futures. 💙
